Benefit with this person, harm others
Theobromin is like caffeine in that it stimulates the central nervous system, albeit a little less. Like when we drink tea, coffee, using chocolate, we will feel more alert and excited. However, in some so-called sensitivities, it may be insomnia (especially eating or drinking chocolate at night) or heart palpitations (people with this symptom are better off not using chocolate). Theobromin also has a diuretic effect, stimulating the heart like caffeine but more.
As for the effects on blood pressure, there is controversy because there is a literature that theobromin is like caffeine, which can cause hypertension but in other documents it is noted that theobromin helps lower blood pressure along with coronary vasodilation. For the treatment of dyslipidemia (lowering blood fat), there is evidence that theobromine can be used to treat hyperlipidemia.
However, in chocolate with a lot of fat, processing contains a lot of milk, sugar, if people use excess fat in the blood, if they use it, they will “gain disadvantage” because theobromin benefits are too little but the fat created from eating chocolate. That’s too much.
No scientific studies have shown that theobromine is found
in chocolate to have antidepressant effects, as well as to treat cancer.
Another feature, similar to caffeine, theobromin works to stimulate gastric secretion. Therefore, people with stomach ulcers, duodenum, flatulence … should avoid using much. People with irritable bowel syndrome should also avoid using chocolate because it will make the “often diarrhea with abdominal distention, abdominal pain” worse.
Chocolate should not be assigned to medicine
A 2004 study at Imperial College London found that
theobromin cough treatment accompanied by bronchiectasis should be able to
support asthma (like theophyllin). In fact, theobromine has long been used as
one of the many components of Western medicine to treat cardiovascular disease,
asthma, and obesity. However, theobromin and chocolate are different,
theobromine used as medicine is taken. from cocoa shells (because of their high
content), not cocoa or chocolate powder.
